ABOUT KLIMATTING ETT
This December governments representing the whole world will meet in Copenhagen for the fifteenth – and probably the largest of its kind – conference on climate change: COP 15. The aim is for all countries to unite in their efforts in reducing global warming and to produce a successor of the Kyoto Protocol as it expires in 2012. The 13-15 November, 2009, a three day long Climate Gathering, with the aim to amplify the voice of the young, to work out a joint message to the COP 15 meeting and provide new knowledge and possibilities to act together, was arranged. The aim is that some of the participants will be be given the chance to go as delegates to COP 15.
During the conference, the participants worked together to produce a common message, to be distributed to participants and negotiators at the COP15 meeting in Copenhagen, but also to other stakeholders around the country and around the world. KLIMATTING ETT gathered a total of around 300 young people from climate-concerned municipalities in Sweden, Europe and the world, in order to reflect the global complexity of the climate issue. Since KLIMATTING ETT was united with one of Lund Youth Council's meetings, about a hundred of the participants were youth from Lund.
About the initiative
KLIMATTING ETT was an initiative of UFO (Youth Forum Agenda 21) and Lund Youth Council. The idea was conceived and created by a workgroup, consisting of young representatives from various networks, groups and organizations that have knowledge and commitment to the climate issue. They have had a free hand to develop the program, so that the conference is truly created by and for young people.
The Working Group consisted of representatives from:
- Lunds ungdomsting
- Ungdomsforum för Agenda 21
- Fältbiologerna
- Hållbart Universitet
- Caretakers CEI
- Mykorrizha
